Large Downloads in Safari

When you request multiple file downloads at once from Flow Capture we package all of the requested assets into a single zip archive to streamline the download process.

Safari’s default setting is to unzip those archived files as soon as they’re downloaded on your computer, but the browser has an issue with very large downloads. Specifically, files larger than 4GB in size won’t be completely unzipped, leaving you with missing assets.

This can be sidestepped by simply disabling the auto-unzip function in Safari:

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Under the General tab, uncheck the Open “safe” files after downloading option.

Once you’ve done that, Safari will simply download the files and not touch them. You can then manually unzip it yourself by locating the zip file (likely in your Downloads folder) and double-clicking it.
