Welcome to Playlists on Flow Capture

We've supercharged Playlists and brought with them all of the features of Playlinks into a new flow - Shares.

Playlists and Shares introduce a number of improvements for users who need to

  • Share content from multiple folders.
  • Share content again - but to different people this time.
  • Collaborate with others to collate and Share content.
  • See an admin overview of content shared across the project.

The New Playlist Experience

Previously...

Playlists currently exist on Flow Capture, but their usage has been limited to collating assets for Rooms - our collaborative playback environment.

A Playlist can contain assets from various folders (and Productions), and changes to the Playlist are reflected immediately in the connected Room.

And now...

Playlists are gaining more functionality and prominence across the interface, bringing Playlists out of the Rooms panel and into their own tab inline with folder navigation, to make the feature available to all users with access to the Assets panel. This means that even if you only have Viewer permission in a location you're now able to create playlists and play them back for yourself - your own private screening.

Sharing a Playlist

Any good Playlist is made to be shared, and we're bringing the sharing power of Playlinks to Playlists. Provided you have the permission to Share content you'll be able to Share a Playlist or connect it to a Room - and a Playlist can have serve both functions, allowing you to review the content with the team in a Room before creating a Share and sending the content to the wider audience.

If you could create a Playlink, you can Share a Playlist.

You're able to Share the same Playlist multiple times, and each Share can have different attributes and audiences. This allows you to take the same content and:

  • Share with the Dailies team with a heavy watermark and Inbox permission.
  • Share with the Editing team with Downloads enabled.
  • Share with the Director with a lighter watermark and lower security.

Changes to a Playlist - updates to it's content - are then reflected for all Shares, allowing you to swap out an asset if the wrong clip was selected the first time.

Shares

Shares can be reviewed, modified, updated and resent - by the sender and by Administrators within the new Shares panel for Administrators.

Transitioning to Playlists

The Flow Capture team strives to keep the product intuitive and simple; our expectations are that we will transition from Playlinks to Playlists and remove Playlinks.

We want this transition to be as seamless as possible and for that reason, we will continue to have new Playlists and Playlinks in the product at the same time over the transition period.

The Mechanics of a Transition

Active Playlinks are able to be managed in the Shares panel, and we will in the future discontinue the creation of new Playlinks. At this point existing Playlinks can be viewed and managed, but all future sharing of assets will be in the Playlists and Shares workflow.

During this transitional period we will continue to be data-driven, tracking and assisting to ensure that Playlists are not only as powerful as Playlinks, but a major setp forward in how you share and collaborate with your content.
